Currently reading one of my new wine books by Marissa Ross- Wine All the Time: The Casual Guide to Confident Drinking. This girl cracks me up! She describes wine through humor, and while her notes are often strange and crazy, they make sense!
As I’m reading, I am drinking a 2013 Casarena Malbec Reservado from Mendoza, Argentina. After an hour of breathing, the smell still seemed tight. Perhaps itt needed another hour? However, I’m impatient, and I wanted to drink something while I was reading! The nose was a little harsh: full of dried flowers, tobacco, nutmeg, and a slight vanilla. The bark was definitely worse than it’s bite. While the nose was harsh, the taste was rather soft: full of cranberries, chocolate, and black fruits. It was dry, with medium tannins, and a nice, long finish.
I know it’s not Christmas time anymore, but this wine reminded me of Ebenezer Scrooge. On the outside, it was mean and spiteful. It wanted everyone to leave him alone. However, with time, this wine opened up and was welcoming to all.
I am sure that it will become even kinder and more gentle in an hour.
Aww…the wine’s all gone! I might have to pour another glass 🙂
